I fondly remember this episode called Babel! [1] I remember my mom and I quoting bits of it to each other. I think I must have watched it more than once.
O’Brien got something all Fixed! He shows clearly to be overworked. Oh, this bubbling tube looks a little like a bubble light, but it’s huge, as is seen more clearly later.
As an engineer type myself, I wonder how they did that effect.
Oh, a mysterious bit of technology in this sea of indecipherable fake technology is doing a thing! We know it’s a bad thing because ominous music plays!
Quark’s replicator is out of order, and a disgruntled customer says, “You served it, you’re gonna eat it!” I fondly remember that line.
Then O’Brien says, “She’s flower units of the lad herself.” Which reminds me of the Sprint ad about 10 years after this episode aired, that had the line, “Flower the kids.”
I remember the bit where Jadzia Dax is commenting on the attention of being female, a scene I recall as well, and also how much they go into this aspect of the character during the show. It’s actually quite interesting as a thought experiment or mental exercise of an alien concept, but considering Star Trek was known for “addressing” social issues of the day, and there is no natural analog among humans, it now looks like quite the grooming towards transgenderism.
Kira is actually looking very good with the short hair.
O’Brien emphatically state, “Close the reverse harbor!” a line I liked quoting to my mom.
They figured out that this is aphasia caused by a virus. This has obvious interesting parallels to today, that I would not have picked up on back then. Essential workers only, like Quark!
Quark tells Odo that Rom was able to fix the replicators, and I realize that one of my other favorite lines from the show will be coming up soon. Odo knows Quark is lying because Rom is an idiot, to which Quark replies, “You’re right, Rom is an idiot, ” and says something about paying him less.
So the game of Dabo is like roulette, but you say “Dabo!” like “Craps!” in the craps song from Guys and Dolls.
When they find out that O’Brien has a high fever, Jake Sisko, played by Cirroc Lofton [2] says “Open way long, open way!” which is the line my mom would quote to me.
Heh, the caption who is trying to break quarantine is wearing a striped shirt like Freddy Kruger’s sweater.
They end up fixing the problem and getting everything back to normal like they do in most TV shows. I’m keeping this review is rather short, as I just sat back and enjoyed the heck out of it.
Final Grade: A
This may even ought to be an A+, as it’s very quotable, and I enjoyed it immensely, but I’m hoping that other episodes later, that I haven’t seen, will outshine it.
